WE : Frankie visits our school.
Ben Maguire from P.7 has written a short piece about Frankie's visit to our school. Frankie is from an organisation called WE which inspires others to help those less fortunate than themselves:-so that WE can all make the world a better place by working together.
We
Yesterday a woman called Frankie Williams came to our school to inform us about We, a company dedicated to inspire the young and old to donate or fundraise to help those who are poor or living in poverty. She told us a (very inspirational) story about a boy named Iqbah who was taken from his family to work at a carpet-making factory. The factory was run on child-labour and Iqbah was about ten when he escaped. But he came to a decision. Should he go back home to his parents and live a normal life or should he free the other children from the hard labour and travel world telling his story and that no child should ever go through what he had to. He chose the right decision (the second.)Iqbah travelled the world spreading his story. Finally, he returned home to his awaiting parents. Unfortunately, Iqbah was shot later on.
On the other side, a boy named Craig was reading the morning newspaper to see the comics when he saw something on the front headline. It was about a story about a boy named Iqbah who travelled the world telling his story and when he returned home he was shot.
Craig came to a decision. Should he bring the paper to school and tell everyone about Iqbah’s story or should he just read the comics. Soon he was telling everybody about Iqbah. He started going to other schools and telling everyone about Iqbah. He formed a team of twelve people (including Frankie Williams) and therefore created “We.”
It inspired me because Iqbah and Craig were so dedicated and young when they travelled around the world. We all come to decisions in our lives, because small things have big consequences. It’s has inspired me to come up with a speech about a world where everyone is equal and that no one should ever be judged by their skin colour, religion or gender on which I spoke in front of my class. It inspired me to write ideas like fundraisers and petitions. Maybe I’ll be like Iqbah and travel the world trying to make this world a better place. Maybe you will.
It’s your decision. Ben Maguire
